Why we exist

왜 만들었나요

The number of international visitors to Korea has grown steadily, driven by K-pop, K-drama, and broader cultural interest. The vast majority of Korean businesses welcome these visitors warmly — but a small number of incidents (overpricing, hygiene issues, unfair practices) keep happening, and reports about them often stay within Korean-language news where international travelers can't easily find them.

K-pop·K-드라마·문화에 대한 관심으로 한국을 찾는 외국인 관광객이 꾸준히 늘고 있습니다. 대다수 한국 상인은 외국인을 따뜻하게 맞이하지만, 일부 바가지·위생 문제·부당한 거래가 계속 발생하고 있으며, 이런 사건들은 주로 한국어 뉴스에만 보도되어 외국인 여행자가 쉽게 알기 어렵습니다.

The Seoulist exists to bridge that information gap — and to keep it balanced. We share both the cautions and the good things, because Korea is much more than a few problem cases.

How we work

운영 원칙

• Sourced from Korean media. Every story we publish references reporting from established Korean outlets (KBS, MBC, JTBC, Yonhap, etc.). We translate and contextualize — we don't fabricate. 한국 언론 출처 명시. 모든 글은 KBS·MBC·JTBC·연합뉴스 등 한국 언론사 보도를 기반으로 합니다. 우리는 번역하고 맥락을 더할 뿐, 만들어내지 않습니다.
• No personal attacks. We report incidents at the level Korean media reports them — no naming or shaming individuals beyond what original outlets disclose. 개인 비방 X. 한국 언론이 보도한 수준에서만 사건을 다룹니다. 원본 보도가 공개하지 않는 개인 정보·상호명을 추가로 노출하지 않습니다.
• Balanced perspective. Bright Side and Heads Up are equal pillars. The site is not a complaints feed. 균형 유지. Bright Side와 Heads Up은 동등한 두 축입니다. 단순 부정 사이트가 아닙니다.
• Track improvements. When the government, local authorities, or businesses respond to issues, we update the story so readers see the full arc. 개선 추적. 정부·자치단체·상인의 대응이 있으면 글을 업데이트해 사건의 전체 흐름을 보여줍니다.
• Practical, not preachy. Every Heads Up story includes "how to protect yourself" steps that work in real life. 설교 X, 실용 ✓. 모든 Heads Up 글에는 실제로 도움이 되는 "이렇게 대처하세요" 단계를 포함합니다.
