Seoul's Jung-gu district holds the 2026 Jeongdong Night Walk (정동야행) around Deoksugung on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31. 34 historic and cultural venues, from museums and galleries to churches, keep their doors open until 22:00. The whole festival sits in the old Jeongdong neighbourhood beside Seoul City Hall, so it fits easily into an evening downtown.

What it is

The Night Walk opens Jeongdong's museums, churches, theaters and historic halls after dark, with performances inside several of them. According to Munhwa Ilbo, the festival was held in spring last year and moves to autumn this year. Both Munhwa Ilbo and Newsis give this year's theme as "정동, 새로운 빛을 입다", roughly "Jeongdong, newly lit".

Things start with an opening performance at 18:30 on October 30 in front of Junghwajeon (중화전), a hall inside Deoksugung.

What to see

  • Church concerts. Chungdong First Methodist Church (정동제일교회), Seoul Anglican Cathedral (성공회 서울주교좌성당) and the Salvation Army church (구세군서울제일교회) host organ, classical and brass band music.
  • Historic halls and a theater. Jungmyeongjeon (중명전), the National Land Development Exhibition Hall (국토발전전시관) and Jeongdong Theater (정동극장) stage shows, from jazz and orchestra sets to a taekkyeon (택견, a traditional martial art) demonstration.
  • Light and XR. The Pai Chai Hakdang history museum (배재학당역사박물관) runs a media facade projection and an XR (extended reality) experience; the XR sessions were among the pre-registered programs.
  • Stamp tour. Wander between the venues at your own pace and fill a stamp card; collect 12 or more stamps to earn a souvenir.
  • Food. A food zone sets up in Jeongdong Park (정동공원), and 20 restaurants in the neighbourhood offer discounts during the festival.

Tickets and booking

The programs that needed a seat in advance are already allocated. Pre-registration ran on the festival site from 09:00 KST on October 7 to 18:00 KST on October 16, and winners were announced on October 19. It covered the guided walk Jeongdong Hanbakwi (정동한바퀴), embassy and museum tours, the XR sessions, a lecture and a book concert.

For everything else, the reports and the official site give no admission price and no word on walk-in entry. Before you set off, check the notices on the official site, which has an English section.

How to get there

  • By subway: the official site lists City Hall Station (시청역, Lines 1 and 2), Euljiro-ipgu Station (을지로입구역, Line 2) and Gwanghwamun Station (광화문역, Line 5).
  • Leave the car: the organiser says there is no dedicated parking and asks visitors to use public transport. Traffic control is planned from Daehanmun gate (대한문) past the Jeongdong fountain to Yewon School.
  • Find your way: use Naver Map or KakaoMap for transit directions, and pay with T-money or the Climate Card.

Our verdict

This suits anyone who likes old buildings, church music or a slow walk with snacks along the way. Saturday is the better pick if you want time: the 14:00 start lets you locate venues in daylight before the evening program. Friday gives you only four hours, but it has the opening show.

If you hoped for a guided tour, the deadline has passed; the stamp card is the self-guided substitute. The one open question is whether entry is free and walk-in, so confirm it on jeongdong-culturenight.kr before October 30.
